Lunchbox Family Program

Now in its fifth year, and transforming

Our primary mission-delivery program provides weekly, customized, direct-to-home market boxes of fresh produce and whole-food, plant-based products to families across Central Texas.

Lunchbox Family Program delivery
How delivery works today

Customized market boxes, delivered with dignity

We serve roughly 200 children weekly across 60+ families on four delivery routes spanning Austin, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Cedar Park, and surrounding communities. The majority of our families are single mothers or grandparents caring for young children.

Families maintain their food preferences in our system, and we use an AI-driven allocation algorithm to maximize satisfaction and ensure fair distribution. Orders are packed by volunteers on Sundays at the Lunchbox Hub and delivered by volunteer drivers and our DoorDash partnership for last-mile delivery.

The three pillars in practice

Access, tools, and agency, mapped to our mission

Access

Whole food, reliably

Pipelines from farms, food rescue, and wholesale get fresh produce and shelf-stable products into families' hands through the market box system, year-round.

Tools

Knowledge & skills

Chef-partnered cooking guidance, nutrition knowledge, budgeting, and a curated partner network help families cook and eat plant-rich with confidence.

Agency

Family-led

Families shape what they receive, give feedback that influences the program, build confidence over time, and ultimately source whole foods independently.

The defining shift of 2026

A transformation program, not a delivery service

The Lunchbox Family Program is no longer simply a food delivery service. It is a nutrition transformation program in which families are supported to grow and empowered to build independence.

At intake, families complete a baseline Nutrition Journey Index survey and an enrollment conversation that establishes mutual expectations. Throughout their time in the program, families grow across access, tools, and agency, supported by quarterly check-ins, program resources, and a consistent relationship with Sunday Lunchbox.

Access to whole foods remains ongoing, it's permanent community food infrastructure, not something families graduate from. Tools and agency, however, have measurable progressions that the Nutrition Journey Index tracks over time.
